The Singapore Tourism Board (STB), a statutory body under the ministry of trade and industry is charged with the responsibility of developing the Singapore tourism industry and marketing Singapore as a tourist destination. The board started its operations on January 1, 1964 under the name of Singapore Tourist Promotion Board (STPB). The former name of Singapore Tourism Board (STB) was the Singapore Tourism Promotion Board. To reflect a radical shift in the way tourism was being made out as an economic powerhouse, it was changed to that name in 1997. STB then started branding Singapore as a travel destination on the regional tourism scene to the traveler and travel agencies not just by pushing the destination but also selling it. It marked the change to the development of the tourism sector. To achieve nimble, daring, and innovative destination marketing with resultant outputs, the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) is interested in building on its core competencies of Destination Singapore. Through its strong platform of strengthened global brand recognition, digital strengths, and partnerships, STB continues to contribute to the increased popularity of Singapore as a travel destination. The ASEAN Tourism Strategic Plan 2016-2025 (ATSP) is expected to play a larger role in the ASEAN integration objective by shifting to a more inclusive, a more green, and more knowledge-based economic growth scenario.
